Why Second Harvest is My First Choice

    There is one word that describes what this world would be like without food: empty. It is a necessity to every species on the planet, fueling all the activities that we take place in daily. Food is one of the most important things we have on Earth, and healthy humans need to eat every day. Unfortunately, it is no secret that too many people don’t have access to daily meals. This is a problem that we should not be facing in a society as advanced as the one that we live in. There is more than enough food for everyone on this planet, yet for some reason people are still dying from starvation every single day.  

Ever since I was a child, my parents made sure I would never go to bed hungry. I never had to worry about if I was going to be able to eat on a given day, but I witnessed many people around me living in less fortunate conditions. Even in elementary school, there were kids I went to school with who were uncertain about their next meal. I hated watching my peers suffer from food uncertainties and knew something had to change. Some measures were put into place to combat this issue, such as free lunch and breakfast at public schools, but it didn’t fix the root problem at hand. Children were still going home to families that were not able to provide for them. Second Harvest is working to change this for good.  

Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is a non-profit organization located in Maryville, Tennessee. They are currently serving 18 counties in East Tennessee and are looking to expand their operations as much as possible. Second Harvest distributes food through different programs in multiple ways, including a mobile food pantry. They accept help from the public through food donations, monetary donations, and volunteer work. As of now, over 700 local agencies are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank. They are looking for all the help they can get to feed our community. 

One program Second Harvest runs that is particularly important to me is their school food pantries. They provide food to families at schools in 12 of the counties they operate in. This is an impressive number, but with the support of local communities they may be able to expand this to every county. One part of the work Second Harvest does in East Tennessee schools includes the Backpack Program. This provides children with a weekend’s worth of food to take home, ensuring they have nutritious meals even when school isn’t in session. These are the types of programs that need to keep being put into place to ensure that children no longer go hungry.  

I have done volunteer work with Second Harvest in the past and have seen their operations up close. They really take passion in what they’re working towards and are always looking for new people to help. If everyone does what they can to support the organization, together we will end world hunger.

If I had to choose one favorite thing in the world, it would have to be food. Food is something that I associate with every day of my life. People in my life have given me many experiences that have been made by food and it’s more than just something in my stomach. It can bring community and people together, for example Thanksgiving people and family they all eat together And that is important thing because you can share a great memories with each other and family and friends and it means a lot to me to see the family smile, even if it’s just the slightest smile it means a lot because I wanna see everyone happy and it meant a lot to me to see those family smile after we brought a hot meal Ready to eat because some of these families don’t have a lot and a simple meal can make their week or even year.

Second harvest who bank of East Tennessee in Knoxville believes that hunger is a problem that no one should ever have to face, especially children and families second horse food bank is committed to serving individuals as well as families and Tennessee Second harvest is working to find many solutions to food being wasted or food that could be given to someone else that’s in need of it instead of being thrown out, second harvest wants to help people achieve their full potential, keeping everyone, including children fed at all times and the compassion and support by second harvest Food bank has made a significant difference in any sense and will continue to make a big difference me personally I want to work with second harvest food bank of you send Tennessee because they have shown so much support of the east community and second harvest food bank has covered at least 18 counties, which is a lot and going into holiday season which Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming around. 

It’s important that these families and children have warm meals ready for them because if not, they would make me really sad and make them sad as well. A group campaign is very focused on collecting food, donations and financial donations but more in reality we are just here to raise awareness with our social media post and doing events on Ped walk away on campus to get back to all the communities and we are so grateful to attend a grade school might as well put our foot forward and get out there and support Second Harvest Food Bank. Five for Harvest – Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope

The five for harvest group has been doing plenty of things to try and promote our campaign as much as possible fly for harvest has been seeking plenty of ideas to try to raise our campaign as much as possible we have all been working together to raise awareness for what we are staying for and trying to get out to the public We start off by the social media account that we made. We have three different social media accounts, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Every day we post content that relates to five for harvest, whether that be promo content, informational content, or just any content in general. We strive to get the word out there and make sure people hear what we are talking about and are wanting. We visited the facility of the second horse food bank, and we noticed they have a ton of food that plenty of families could use around the Knoxville area. That’s why it’s important that we get our campaign out to as many people as possible because that food can be One less starving person and it can benefit so many different people and so many different ways that some of us don’t even know there are plenty of different opportunities to get involved. We have had one campaign fundraiser so far where we donated cookies and donuts and that was a big benefit for all of us. It helped to get the word out there to help our campaign strive for more donations and we’ll be doing this next week where we will be also having a poster and flyers for you guys to look at and we also be having many different gifts for people that donate so one dollar can make a difference. The amount of money doesn’t matter. It's about the effort that you put into this campaign. Our GoFundMe page is up and running. We have a whole information section about what we’re doing and why we are doing this it covers everything you guys need to know about our campaign and there is a Y and aware and how to do this on the GoFundMe illustrates everything we are doing for the second horse food bank campaign, and it’s very beneficial that people donate to our GoFundMe so more people can be fed in the Knoxville area it’s just a good way to give back because we all know how fortunate we are and this is just one other way to show how fortunate we are to help feed someone or even a whole family we will be giving you updates in the next couple of weeks of what our plans ahead are for our campaign, so make sure you follow our social media account file for harvest on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook and that’s gonna be an important way to keep you guys informed on what’s going on and it’s going to be beneficial that you guys follow the account as well so you know what’s going on

Why Second Harvest Is Important to Me

People in my life have given me experiences that have made food more than just something in my stomach. Food given with love or in a time of need is very powerful. It can bring communities together and save parents the time of worrying about feeding their kids. When I was a kid growing up, my mother would always make meals for our friends if they were going through something tough as a family, and would make my siblings and I go with her to deliver. It meant a lot to me to see those families smile when we brought them a hot meal ready to eat. I hope that I can do that for someone and I think I can accomplish that through Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. 

    Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tn also believes that hunger is a problem that no one should ever have to face. They are deeply committed to seeing that every individual and family in East Tennessee has access to good nutritious food. Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee not only provides meals to those in hunger but is also working to find solutions to food being wasted or food that could be given to someone else. By partnering with local farmers, grocery stores, and community organizations, Second Harvest of East Tn has been able to find places for food before it is wasted or thrown away. People who are helped by Second Harvest find that the food they receive is given with love. Second Harvest wants to help people achieve their full potential through keeping everyone fed. Through compassion and community support, Second Harvest continues to make a meaningful difference in East Tn. 

    I wanted to work with Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tn so that I could have a chance to share my love for food and what comes with a good meal. Second Harvest Food Bank of East TN has a lot of work on their plate, covering 18 counties. Going into this holiday season, any kids, parents, and others will be hungry and cold. I want to help keep some of these people fed and warm this winter. My group campaign is focused on collecting food donations and financial donations, but in reality it is much more than that. Our team is working to collect food through food drives, spreading awareness with social media posts, and doing events on campus at the University of Tennessee. We are a group of college students who want to give back to the community we get to attend school in. As a testament to being a vol, we want to give back to this very special place.
